DAOSTACK - Operating System For New Organization Form
Greetings Community, in this post I would like to introduce about Daostack project, and for more details let's go to the following discussion:
DAOstack is an operating system for new organizational forms:
DAO. Decentralized Autonomous organizations have captured the imaginations of the best thinkers in the blockchain room, but although their promise is still an abstract idea. One key point of failure is the lack of a solid framework for decentralized blockchain governance. At the base of the DAO pile, Arc is an open, universal framework of smart contracts for decentralized governance and collective value management on blockchain. Just as HTTP enables the creation and interoperability of web sites and web applications, DAOstack enables the creation and interoperability of enterprise web, collaborative applications, and DAO, as well as their alignment of interest arrangements. The result is a new open collaborative network, where collectives can set themselves around common goals and values, beyond pure economic growth.
The Future of the Organization
The ability to organize and coordinate large numbers of individuals is one of the greatest strengths (and drivers) of society, which has been through constant evolution for thousands of years. In this chapter we describe the challenges of today's legacy organizations, and the possible form of new web organizations: DAO.
Legacy Organization
Agent cooperation improves their efficiency with respect to the strength of the external competitor's market. This is the basic origin of the company and the reason organizations want to grow. However, coordinating a large number of agents is difficult and expensive, and that is why organizations can not grow indefinitely.
As it grows, organizations need more rigid structures in place, and thus face growing challenges to: a) maintain agility with regard to rapidly changing conditions, and b) maintain alignment of interests, trust and involvement among their members. In short, the larger the organization, the more internal friction it needs to overcome; the smaller it is, the more dominant external competition. The true size of a company is generally a sweet spot of balance between these two forces.
Occasionally, the introduction of new technologies or paradigm shifts enables the reduction of coordination costs, pushing the scale and efficiency of the organization to a new level. This triggers a transition in the landscape of work and business, and after that social change as well, as with the discovery of crowdsourcing and the Internet itself.
The Internet allows open, real-time and peer-to-peer exchange of information on a global scale. Thus, the internet media becomes more efficient than traditional media, and quickly assimilates the latter. However, the Internet by itself does not support an open exchange of values and general purpose coordination, and is thus limited in its potential to drive global cooperation.
Blockchain
Blockchain is the second internet revolution, doing for the value and business what the Internet has to do for information and media. This allows an unprecedented level of mass coordination by eliminating all
problems of error and trust, and consequently form the basis of technology for Decentralization of Autonomous Organizations (DAO). DAO is a new form of measurable and self-regulating cooperation, operated by smart contracts on blockchain. Many believe that DAO holds a promise for the future of business and employment, but despite the many appeals in the blockchain community surrounding this, successful governance systems and operational bases for DAO still do not exist.
Agency
DAO building blocks are smart companies, or agents (we will use those terms interchangeably). Agencies are atomic governance units that are managed and operated under smart contracts in blockchain. It has its own tokens (related to the benefits of company resources), its own reputation system (related to credibility and influence in the company's case), and its own governance system ("rules" encoded in smart contracts).
The governance protocol embedded in smart contracts from agencies can be something to discover. A simple example is a proposal-based governance system, with a majority yes / no vote on proposals required for
approval and execution (which is one of the actions within the smart company). Possible proposals about the distribution of tokens, for example, and votes may be weighted by voter reputation. We will provide some other examples in the next chapter. In the heuristic visualization it can look like this:
HOW The cornerstone of the evolving DAO ecosystem
DAOstack runs on GEN
GEN is the original token of the DAOstack platform. Basic operations in the DAOstack ecosystem - such as promoting proposals - will require GEN expenditure or storage. GEN will be distributed to value contributors through the DAOstack framework itself, providing development, promotional and adoption incentives
